SYNERGY WITH LAGOS STATE AND FADE AFRICA

It will be an understatement that given the recent spate of natural disasters, tsunamis, global warming, earthquakes and hurricanes, one can conclude that these are warning signs that the end of the earth is very near. This reality can create fear and panic. It should however also awaken a desire by those who passionately care about the earth and its green status to do something; however little or seemingly late to save our dear beloved planet earth.

Interestingly, and in what was to turn out to be a prophetic initiative, it was the Lagos state Commissioner for Environment Dr. Muiz Adeyemi Banire on behalf of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) who flagged of this historic third expedition at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, on February 29th 2008. He told the expeditioners that Lagos State was fully behind them and was in the process of strengthening their Environmental and Green Policy by enacting a law to stop the indiscriminate felling of trees without replacement as well as embark on massive project of making Lagos State Green and huge tree-planting exercise. The Commissioner then announced the Lagos State Government intention to participate as from 2009 in FADE's programmes as well as its proposed annual Sahara Desert expedition.
